India has the highest child wasting rate in the world at 18.7%. 35.5% of children under 5 are medically listed as having stunted growth, a condition that leads to long-term developmental complications. In 2022, 3.38 million children deaths were due to malnutrition and malnourishment.
Causes of Malnutrition in Children in India emerge from:
Poverty and poor awareness: Lack of access to affordable and nutritious food.
Severe maternal malnutrition: A mother’s nutritional status during pregnancy significantly impacts the child’s birth weight and overall health.
Poor feeding practices: Due to maternal malnutrition, inadequate breastfeeding, late introduction of and access to complementary foods, drives malnutrition.
Unhygienic environments: Frequent infections due to lack of sanitation and hygiene can reduce appetite, decrease nutrient absorption, and increase nutrient needs. Malnutrition itself also weakens the immune system, making children more susceptible to infections.
Limited access to health services: This includes vaccinations and treatment for infections.
Lack of nutritional knowledge: Many programs don’t address awareness to the impacted population like in slums.
Infant malnutrition is avoidable. We seek funding for programs on saving children via maternal and child health programs in slums and underprivileged areas so that we can save lives. Join us today in eradicating infant and mother deaths due to malnutrition. Our programs focus on slums and cover:
Awareness: Simple measures to create awareness on complimentary foods, supplementation and hygienic practises to eradicate man nutrition in slums.
Sanitation: Slum clean ups to reduce infection rate in malnutrition kids and mothers. Awareness of hygienic practises helps households living in the slums practice better hygiene.
Vaccination programs: Partnership with governments/hospitals for vaccination camps in slum areas.
Distribution of supplements: Help eradicate maternal man nutrition with basic supplements that protect the mother and child.
