
Vijay Nallawala is a renowned mental health advocate, author, and community builder based in Mumbai. He is primarily recognized as the Founder of Bipolar India, a pioneering peer-led support community for individuals living with bipolar disorder and depression. Founded in May 2013, Bipolar India is one of India’s first national peer-support platforms. It provides a safe virtual and offline space for “peers” (individuals with lived experience) and their caregivers.
Vijay is also the Co-founder and Managing Trustee of Mental Health Support Foundation, which serves as the umbrella entity for Bipolar India. As co-founder of Let’s Walk Together, he is focused on fostering inclusivity and creating livelihood opportunities for those with mental health conditions. He is a Global Advisor for #BillionStrong, an organization focused on disability inclusion and empowerment.
Dr. Nallawala is the author of the critically acclaimed book, A Bipolar’s Journey: From Torment to Fulfillment (2015). The memoir details his personal struggle with bipolar disorder since 2003 and his eventual path to recovery through medication, yoga, and meditation. He also maintains an active blog at bipolarindia.com. He serves as esteemed jury member of The Restore Awards®, run by the foundation to recognise individuals and organisations impacting human and planet health.
