On September 1, as we marked the beginning of International Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we feel proud to announce a meaningful new collaboration 💛🎗️

Our Foundation officially launches a dedicated Fellowship Program for Access Life Assistance Foundation, bringing our in-house supportive nutrition expertise to support children with cancer and their families staying across Access Life’s 14 centres— their Home Away From Home, as they undergo treatment.

🎗️Over the coming months, our fellowship will develop and deliver tailored supportive nutrition training programs aligned with dietary prescriptions of the children’s treating doctors and hospitals, equipping Access Life teams with practical knowledge to support families better.

🎗️When a child battles cancer, medical treatment is necessary. But with supportive nutrition, things get easier. Nutrition is an important component of supportive care, nutritional status, higher treatment tolerance and better quality of life.

🎗️Clinical studies published in the Journal of Health and Rehabilitation Research indicates that up to 42.5% of children are undernourished or experience severe weight loss at diagnosis. Data demonstrates that when malnutrition during paediatric cancer treatment is addressed, it supports in reducing mortality risk, and reduced rates of infections in these brave hearts.

🎗️Evidence from the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC) highlights that structured nutritional support acts as a modifiable prognostic factor—improving chemotherapy tolerance (so that sessions are not missed), reducing hospital stays, and directly bolstering survival rates.

🎗️We at Kindness Practice Foundation are deeply grateful to the team at Access Life Assistance Foundation for welcoming us into their Home Away From Home centres and giving us the opportunity to contribute to the wellbeing of the children and families they support.

🎗️Because while medical treatment fights the disease, supportive nutritional care helps the child through the journey.

This Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, let’s look beyond the gold ribbon and focus on the care, nourishment, dignity and support every child deserves 💛🎗️
